What the brand can prove
!

Mayamiko's vision is to bring a growing selection of carefully crafted pieces to customers, made by handpicked artisans all over the globe. Currently, you can choose from plant died jewelry from Sri Lanka, hand-knitted fair trade Peruvian hats and up-cycled silk from Italy. They are dedicated to putting people and the planet at the heart of their process and are here to prove that shopping ethically and sustainably does not compromise on quality or design, but rather, adds to its value, while empowering all those along its production lifecycle. All their clothes are made in human scale workshops that share their ethos

Mayamiko started as a charity set up by Paola in 2008 called Mayamiko Trust. The Trust aimed to provide opportunities to the most disadvantaged women in Malawi by nurturing their creative talents, providing transferable skills and a chance to access sustainable trade practices. Several years later Mayamiko, the brand, was founded, working alongside the charity through the Mayamiko Fashion Lab, where many of the brands garments are made. The Mayamiko Fashion Lab was designed to provide training, education, nutrition, sanitation and fairer trade practices to all of those involved. It started with tailoring training for disadvantaged local women, many of whom are affected by the HIV pandemic or who are carers of HIV orphans. As well as receiving a recognised qualification, women have access to business skills training, mentoring and access to a micro-finance scheme, enabling them to start their own business

At Mayamiko they follow ILO and ETI guidelines and are also a provisional member of WFTO. These are considered as a standard benchmark, as their internal practices go well above these

Mayamiko the brand was born from their own charity, the Mayamiko Trust, to which they give their profits to fund charitable work and trainings for women empowerment in Africa. Please have a look at www.mayamiko.org to learn more about their initiatives

Mayamiko is a small business

Mayamiko has partnered with One Tree Planted, an amazing non-profit organisation who are helping to give back to the planet one tree at a time. Every time you place an order with Mayamiko you will have the option to plant a tree, then the brand pays for One Tree Planted to do the honours and plant your very own tree!

All of Mayamiko's packaging is made from recyclable or compostable materials and printed using eco inks. They use no plastic in their packaging: the mailers are compostable from Better Packaging Co, the tissue paper is recycled and the stickers are printed with non-toxic dyes from No Issue. Order a Mayamiko delivery and it could come in a hand-painted bag by artists like Nuaka and Nalaka, who graduated from the Chitra Lane School for the Special Child
